Default 06 Polaris TB 330 Starter Removal

I have a 06 Polaris Trail Boss 330. MY starter's "Terminal Stud" is too loose and has to be tweaked to start. Sometimes it works and other times not.
Do I need to remove the clutches and backer plate in order to remove the starter? It sure looks that way.
Thank you

If you broke the locking nut loose on the brush plate, can't tighten the starter cable and the starter is intermittent, then yes I'd remove the starter. Since I had a lift that I could work waist high, had air tools(and big hands) I just removed the clutch cover, drive clutch and the engine seal and pulled the backing plate out far enough to get that one hard starter bolt out.People with small hands can possibly remove the air box and work that way.Up to you. If you're on a budget you can install a cheap brush kit,BUT all depends on what shape the armature is in along with the gear end that engages the starter bendix, plus your desire to do this. And I'd hate to have the starter give out in a couple months and have to go back through this!http://www.ebay.com/itm/Starter-Repair-Kit-Polaris-330-Trail-Blazer-330-2008-2011-Polaris-TrailBlazer-/271031928149?hash=item3f1ac30555&vxp=mtrIf you're lazy like me,I wouldn't waste my time rebuilding one. Some last, some don't and we didn't have good luck with rebuilt ones at the shop, even ones rebuilt by generator shops.Plenty of cheap starters on ebay, plus here.DB Electrical - STARTER POLARIS ATV 325 335 425 500 SPORTSMAN GOLD 2 Year SMU0061 18645

I can get to the starter from the top, removing the air box.
Will the starter bolts come out far enough to remove the starter with the backing plate in place?
I don't have the tools to remove and reinstall the clutch. I have found the "offset tool" and the clutch removal tool on Ebay but I would prefer to not take the clutch off if I don't have to. I am currently a long ways from a dealer.
I will replace the starter. Thanks for the info on DB Electrical.

The bottom bolt is the problem, top bolts is easy. You can if you're careful use a pry bar to pull the backing plate out far enough to remove the bolt. You have to have good dexterity in your fingers which I didn't have.. I just pulled the clutch.

A quick update on the starter. I got my starter from DB. Found the clutch tools on-line. The Drive Clutch had to be removed. Put the starter in today. Starter is working great.
Thank you for your help. This was a good learning experience for me.

Kinda figured you'd remove the clutch. Sometimes takes a little more work to make a job easier,as stupid as it sounds..
