97 polaris xplorer 300 bogging

As the title says my xplorer 300 is bogging in the low end but once u get the revs up it has power and u have to hold the throttle wide open to get it to start plus it doesent idle

Could be as simple as too much fuel causing the bogging.A worn out carb needle and seat,float sticking or float level adjustment may be needed. Before you spend the money on that I'd do a compression check JUST to eliminate anything further that could be the problem. If compression is at least 120 psi,a carb kit may solve the problem. Normal range for the carb air screw is 2 turns out from a lightly seated position. 250 and 300 engines normally have a little hesitation,but shouldn't bog down.If you go to the trouble of tearing down a carb,always install a carb kit so you wont have to go back in.
