Honda 300 quad for Emergency Medical use
#1
I've used my 2000 Honda 300 quad several times as the EMT for a local Boy Scout camp on weekends when there are lots of kids and parents there.
I was wondering what good ideas anyone else may have if you're doing the same thing with your ATV or if you're using your ATV for other types of emergency medical, fire-rescue, SAR use.
I carrying the usual trauma bag & contents, O2 setup with BVM, non-rebreathers, etc. I also carry C-collars, minor wound care kit, and a Heartstream FR-2 debibrillator.
On the plastic housing that covers the ignition components I mounted brackets for a Ham 2-meter radio that is connected to an Antenna Specialists 3dB gain antenna mounted on the rear rack with Belden RG58 coax and an aluminum mounting bracket. Everything is secured with bungee cords or cable ties.
Thanks for any ideas you may have.

I am also an EMT and have used my 2001 Recon at the local Motocross races. I use it to carry the medical bag out to the injured riders and then (depending on thier injuries) will bring them back to the ambulance. It has been a great help and greatly reduces our response times.

I am the fire captain of a small department in the mountains west of Denver. We have used my Rubicon (and before that, TRX250) for EMS and smoke investigations. We have strapped the stokes basket across the rear rack and walked the patient out. Much better than trying to carry the patient out of the mountain parks (they always seem to get injured far from the parking lot or road!).
We have just purchased a Polaris 6x6 for EMS and wildland work. In wildland configuration there will be 2 CAFS back packs, some hand tools, and rehab materials. In EMS form there will be room for a stokes basket, medical supplies, and an EMT on a chair to perform patient care as a driver takes the machine out to the ambulance. The trauma kit and O2 will be strapped to the bed of the ATV when used for EMS. The bed is made of aluminum and is 52" long by 48" wide. The Polaris 6X6 is a very stable platform.
If you wish, drop me a line and I will add you to my mailing list to send pictures after it is completed. We estimate completion in May.
My Rubicon and Kodiak will be back-up ATVs for the department.
