Riding In Colorado
#1
Hi There
I am traveling from New Zealand to Colorado for the Pikes Peak Hillclimb (hhhhm coughcough sorry -Business) in June, and would like to know of any areas around Denver, Colardo Springs, Longmont areas that I can hire a quad (perferable a Polaris Scrambler 400) and have a ride for a few hours?
If anyone wants to lend me a 403cc Paul Turner Banshee for the hill climb, I will gladly fly if for free! Kiwis can fly!

Sure. Check out Happy Trails Motorsports in Peyton Colorado (they are just up the road from me about 10 miles. http://happytrailsmotorsports.com/
Or see their ad in the Colorado Springs Thrifty Nickel http://www.thenickel.com/adsearch.asp
Will you be racing, assisting racers, or "just a spectator" like the rest of us? I usually camp out at Devils Playgound.
Here are some of my photos from the '98 race:

I also have photo's from the 2000 race, but can't find them right now.
Where do you want to ride? How long will you be here?

Thanks for the info. I will look them up when I get there, but have their address from the net now.
Good to see another Kiwi at the top of your pictures. Rod Millen is here at the moment for our Goldrush Hill Climb next weekend. He uses a Tundra truck down here as the roads are a bit rough for the Celica. I understand he is not racing at Pikes Peak this year, but I hope to see him in Queenstown next week. Last year he got a 2nd, and his son got third in his rally car. A quad got a 6th over all, and the same bloke is going for a podium finish this year. Last year he ran a LT500 frame with a GSX1100R motor in it in stock form at about 130hp. This year he has got that to 180hp at the wheels. There will also be Quadzilla III, a 1300cc Suzuki Hybusa powered LT250 with a Nissan Skyline turbo charger that was de-tuned to 300hp last year. He believes he can get 400hp max from it, but it was to unreliable, and to powerfull for every other component on the bike. Needless to say, it broke last year. I have just heard that he got 352hp at the rear wheels on a dyno on Tuesday before the clutch exploded in to $1000 dollars worth of useless little bits.
I have also seen a 400ex with a Honda 1000cc V twin from I think a CB1000F. This is a sweet looking ride, but the pilot is untested.
Check out http://www.racetothesky.com/noflash/index.htm and have a look at the images. The quad there is Ian Ffitch who raced in the 250 pro class in the US for a while (he was the first non American to win a pro quad race). This is the 1100cc Suzuki. Check out the rear tire size and shape with the HP the thing outputs. Raced against him last weekend at speedway on his Honda paid ride. (lost badly). He works for Wayne at PEP when he is in the US, rebuilding shocks for him.
If someone wants to lend me a bike I will gladly stear it, but at the moment I am just another spectator. What are the best vantage points?
