I just got back from the dealer, went to get a filter: $10.95, and 2qts of synthetic oil @ $6.95 a qt, plus tax! I know synthetic oil ain't cheap, but $11 for a filter? come on. Any body now what the fram p/n is for these machines? and what oil do YOU use.

Fram 7317, 6017A, or 6607
NAPA 1356,1358
Wix 51356

Mobil 1 should work just fine.

P.S. I have been there, I know the feeling, i.e. $176 for a 50 hour inspection. (never again)

Yea, it's spendy at the dealer, I went into the shop while I was there, to ask about labor on a valve adjustment. They wanted 3.5 hours @ $62! I think I'll order a servide manual from Chopperbill and save some money. I really didn't want to deal with taking every thing off the bike to get to the valves but I charge a lot less for labor

What's the differance in the 3 Fram filters? Is it just the lenght or something? These will work on all Polaris quads right?

The 7317 is the longer version of the 6607. It will fit on the Sportsman but not the Magnum 500 because it's length comes in contact with the side covers.

The Victory motorycyle also uses the same filters as the Magnum and Sportsman. So if your dealer is asking exhobitant prices get the chrome Victory filter

The 6017A is the motorcycle edition of this filter and is supposed to be more heavy duty. (also more expensive)

Brake pads: Try EBC or the factory "severe duty" pads. Both will last longer than the original equipment.

J.C. Whitney sells pads for about $20 but they are a few millimeters narrower in the height and width than the standard pad. But... if the pads are being chewed up during a weekend of mud riding I guess the difference is moot.

Thanks to everybody who replied. I solomly vow to never set foot in that dealership again. I emailed Chopperbill, and will be ordering a service manual from him on payday. (my dealer won't sell them to the pulic)I figure if I can make a living fixing cars and building 737's I can work on my own quad. It just sucks that you gotta tear the whole damn thing apart just to adjust the valves But I still don't think I would buy any thing else.
