When I was at the dealer today to pick up a master link for my chain & some parts for a friends dirt bike, I noticed a few interesting & funny things.

One was the bottle of 4-stroke oil with the picture of a Banshee on the front, I can't remember who made it, but I thought it was pretty funny.

Second was when getting my chain, they said they don't have any links for the Scrambler chain, but the chain that is on the Sportsman 500 is the same as mine, so they gave me that link instead.

hahaha. I never use this dealer. I always wait until I can go to the dealer I bought my quad from (1 1/2 hours away) to buy anything. Something like a master link though I was comfortable buying from them.

Did they know it was the same chain, or did you have to tell them?

Neither. The Sportsman 500 has shaft drive, not chains. I looked at one of their charts myself and saw that all the chains were the same for Polaris models (chain type & size, not length) so I figured the master link would work.

Yeah.. ALL Polaris machines use the 520 O-Ring chain... He's a Polaris dealer and he doesnt know that?... Again, what we have here is somebody selling parts for a machine that they DON'T ride...
I Started to buy a Brand New Ford Mustang back in 1990. Had the financial end all covered,(bank) and FINALLY found the EXACT car I was wanting... everything was perfect, until the salesman opened his mouth.. ALL he wanted to talk was financing and monthly payments... then I asked about all the changes for the new year model... HE DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE..... Needless to say, I didnt buy it...
ALWAYS find a GOOD dealership.... if you have to drive... trust me.. its worth it...!!

This sounds like my local Jeep dealer... I heard that there was a mis-print in the owner's manual for my '98 Jeep Wrangler regarding what type of transmission fluid to use, so I went to my local dealer to find out for sure... The service manager interrupted me halfway through my question and sent me to the parts department, apparently feeling that he shouldn't be bothered by something as petty as checking his fluid chart. The parts department (I don't know why I even bothered to ASK them) took 20 minutes to find what kind of oil it takes. I'm still not certain they were right.

The parts counter 'person' looked bewildered when I asked him how much a service manual would cost... "You mean like, an owners manual?" (These were his exact words!!!)

AAAAAAAUUUUGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

My local ATV dealer is SLIGHTLY better than these idiots.

So far.
