What mods gave the most bang for the buck?

For the most part, I would have to say an exhaust system. Obviosly, you would have to change your jetting to corespond with the pipe, but that is rather cheap.
With the DS, another mod that reaps good results would have to be an ignition box. The recurved advance of a good one[like Team Pami's] along with the raised or eliminated rev limiter will help create more of the Rotax power.
My last bang for the buck suggestion would have to be a free flowing air filter such as a K&N or UNI.

I currently sell the Team Pami ignition box for $300.
The perfomance gains from our, or anyone elses, ignition box is hard to put in exact terms due to it's effect with other mods. The ignition box by itself will show minimal power gains because the stock box is "mapped" for stock ait flow. It will let you use your higher rpm range because of the raised or eliminated rev limiter, but it's true value will be seen when it is used in conjunction with other mods. As a motor flows more air, it needs a different advance curve to ensure that it burns this added flow properly. A well "mapped" ignition box is designed to do this so it can make each mod more effective than it could be by itself. For example, if your pipe is designed to give you an added 6HP, you could get possibly 8-9 hp from the pipe and the ignition box. As your mods get more extensive, the increase that the ignition box gives you will be greater as well. An accidental falure to change from a stock ignition box to a recurved unit resulted in a 21HP loss on a highly modded motor on one particular dyno run.
The closest thing to a draw back from an ignition box that I could think of[although I've never seen this]is that if no other mods are done, the motor could run slightly warmer do to more ignition advance than needed. If used in conjunction with a pipe and proper jetting, this is not an issue.
I hope this answered your questions, if you have any others or would like to order a box, feel free to e-mail me. If you would like to see what else Team Pami has to offer, visit there web site at www.team-pami.de

I have never run anything but K&N filters myself, and never had any problem with them. In my street driven vehicles, I've seen a 2MPG increase in fuel economy from just a K&N filter. I have to say though, that I've yet to here any bad reports about UNI either. I think either one would be a step in the right direction.

I would go first with a Pipe and K&N air filter. Then add a carburetor and CDI Box. After I added the QwikSilver carburetor I had a hard time keeping the front end down. I have just added the Ron Woods CDI box. During the last Dyno runs at Edelbrock we were hitting the rev limiter and still making power.

I have the Ron Woods ST.1 kit and i'll tell you it's awsome. But initially i had the RW rev box and pipe.Big difference over stock. When i added the rest of the kit Carb, manifold it really woke up.I don't know anything about the Team Pami products but i would assume they are good products. Most people i'm aware of use the Ron Woods box. However if i was shopping I'd buy the best priced between the two.My 2 cents.
