looking at getting a magnum 425 but have never been around 1....is it a good year? are they generally reliable? is the 4x4 good on these machines? anything i should be worried about?....the guy said it needs a cdi box, is this a common problem?

 

If it won't run be prepared to spend some $$. Cdi is normally not a problem,but flywheels can throw magnets into stators. Can get expensive if this is what happened. Awd system is only as good as the owner that maintained it. Plus this model used the same cam as the early model Sportsman 500s that had a habit of having the exhaust lobe ground down. GOOD machines if maintained properly,about the same as any other model or brand.Just expect to have problems on an 18 year old machine whether it was abused or even if it was taken reasonably care of.If you buy it,get a service manual!

 

thanks opt! the guy said he worked as a mechanic at my local polaris dealer for years so he thinks he knows what hes talking about, and maybe he does, i guess ill have to see if he can get ahold of another cdi and show me it runs and make sure the drivetrain looks decent...is there a odometer on these?
