Answered: Crucial Mods for Winter Riding

We love the idea of shredding in the pow pow but nobody wants to become a human popsicle! We understand and have the hook up on those mods you may want to consider to stay comfortable while enjoying some snow riding:

X2 I got handwarmers first and discovered my thumb would feel like it's going to drop off when I went on a ride and it was about 15 degrees out. After installing the thumb warmer life was much better. A full faced helmet with a plug in shield defroster helps too.

I don't ride in the winter anymore because my friends don't and I quit going by myself but when I went I stayed warm (most of the time). I have Carhartt winter bibs and coat that I like better than a snowmobile suit. Most of the time I wore my Sorel boots but sometimes I wore army surplus Mickey Mouse boots. They're so warm they made my feet sweat. The good news is that if you get cold water in them the water will warm up and you'll be okay. That's the only time wet feet won't ruin your winter ride.
I used to have some good heavy duty snowmobile gloves and I would sometimes wear thin glove liners too for extra warmth. A neoprene no-fog breath deflector kept my face warm and my goggles fog free. One of the most useful items of clothing I have is a turtle fur neck warmer. Otherwise I would be exposed from my collar up to my mask. I used to carry spare gloves and spare socks are a good idea too.
If you're dressed for it winter is a special time to ride. You can have some trails all to yourself and not see anyone all day. That's also why I quit riding alone. A winch and tow strap are an absolute must and even that won't necessarily get you out. I used to carry a small shovel too in case I buried the quad. That's all I can think of that hasn't been already mentioned.
