Default Oil Light

Polaris 400 with 2 stroke, the oil light is on, what does this mean and how do I get it out

You need to add oil to the tank and the light should go out.

Just like jumbofrank mentioned,it's for indicating low oil level in the oil tank,but if the oil light still doesn't out if the tank is almost full,the 400 floats were bad on becoming oil saturated and sinking to the bottom,triggering the light.Just depends on which model you have.
