1998 sportsman no spark
#1
hey i have a 1998 sportsman 500 with no spark. i searched around using the search function and found lots of information on different years of this model with problems but none that quite answered my question.
i think it may be my stator or pulse coil and would like to check them with a multimeter, but im not sure what wires i need to check. i had a look around for a wiring diagram for under the hood that would show me what im looking for and some information for what kind of ohms i should have, but haven't been able to find anything for a model like this, just information on newer models.
if any one could help me out it would be much appreciated, thanks.

Pulse coil white to white/red should be around 97 ohms.Main stator red to green 3.2 ohms. Black/red to green 446 ohms. Resistance is +/- 20% allowable. Hopefully this is the correct wiring color on the stator for your year model.

i had a look and some of the wires are different colors, but i managed to figure them out.
the white to white/red is there, but the others are red and black/red and yellow and yellow/red
the ohms amounts was very helpful to know though. thank you for the help

Yellow,Yellow/Red are the charge coil wires from the stator to the regulator.Should have a Green in the stator wiring that you test from the Red and Black/Red. At least what the manual shows for the 500 up to 98 model year.Early 99 models and up wire color changes.Possible you have one during the changeover. That's why specific year model manuals are more up to date and helpful.
