Default Polaris 2007 Sportsman wont crank

I have a Polaris 2007 sportsman 500 that wont crank. Jumpered the starter solenoid and it cranks. Get ground on the brown wire going to the solenoid with ignition on, but no +12 on the white wire. Did swap out the 2 small relay with each other and this did nothing?
We normally have to have it in park or hand brake on to start

Thanks Tim

Check/clean the two connectors leading into the left control switch plus use some dielectric grease. Possible the left control switch isn't allowing a good connection, not allowing power to the ignition switch. From the ignition switch is where the(white) power wire on the solenoid gets its voltage.Plus could be as simple as a connector problem on the ignition switch or a faulty switch itself. Rare occasions the fusible link can blow, but you wouldn't have power any where.http://www.ebay.com/itm/POLARIS-ATV-FUSIBLE-LINK-KIT-2202670-/390174777217?hash=item5ad83a9f81&vxp=mtr

Found the hand brake switch, cleaned and deoxed grease. Passes through 12vdc. How do I prove it is the ignition switch or what pins are on at start turn. Hate to buy ignition switch when could be a bad wire.

Thanks Tim

Use a test light or meter. Ignition switch should have power to the Red/Black with ignition switch off. Turn key to the on position. Should have power to the Red/White wire. Turn to start position, should transfer power to the White/Red wire that leads directly to the starter solenoid. If you have problems in getting power to the ignition switch, could be back at the left control switch or an in line short under the front panel. Found a lot of shorts around the main headlight connecting area along with shorts in the main harness that does all the twists and turns.Good place for shorts to happen. Here's a cheap 5 buck pdf service manual with trouble shooting guides and a good electrical schematic diagram on the wiring if you can't narrow it down.2007 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI Service Manual PDF Download

Got it

Thanks for your help, gave me good direction to go

What I did was with a 2nd Polaris swapped out the ignition switches and problems was still there. After you said short or open I held the ignition switch to start and started moving around the wiring harness in different locations and it kicked when I wiggled the harness in the upper light housing. The wire was open and I bypassed the open with a new wire down to the left side switch and added liquid tape at the broken wire end of the harness (dead end now) so will not short out.

Found a bunch of shorts over the years in the headlight area because of the deep bends on the wiring.. Glad you found the problem fairly quick..
