sp500 h.o. grinds when shifting

When I shift from high to reverse sometimes it grind before it goes into gear also it is hard to get out of gear. I have about 150 miles on it will this get better as it brakes in or what ???? when I start it in gear it wants to greep forward,do you think that the idel is set to high giving me all my problems???? how do I set the idel lower thanks shedhead

Better think about changing that screen name. Sh*thead keeps coming to mind when I read it. LOL!!! Just fooling with ya.
There are two issue with grinding.
1. Idle that is too high will definitely make it grind when moving into and out of gear. The idle too high will also make it difficult to shift out of gear. It will appear stuck in gear.
2. The second point to note is the way it is shifted. DO NOT shift slowly. If you do, it will grind until you get it in there. Grab the shifter and move it from position to position with a positive, immediate action. Do it slowly and expect it to grind.
On the subject of starting in gear. Yes the idle being high will cause it to creep as you start it. Any time you start in gear it is added strain on the starter. Why do it? Get in the habit of shifting to neutral before starting. It will start in gear, but the belt always drags a bit. Starters are way too expensive. Don't strain it any more than you have to.
The other possibility for creeping is that the belt is too tight or the clutches are not aligned correctly - warranty adjustment if required.
As for the idle adjustment, with 150 miles it is under warranty. I say let the dealer do it. I don't have the service manual in front of me or I would recite the adjustment for you. Maybe someone else can help with this.

thanks guys you were all right the idel was to high I turned it down and now it shifts great.I still have the problem that it wants to creep forward it really goes when I shift to low what do you think is this normal? thanks again shedhead

Mine does it. I don't worry about it.. just set the brake if you are going to leave it idling in gear.. If you put an automatic car in drive and let off the brake, it's going to leave too.
It's just the belt turning a little from the momentum of the pulleys. Like a clutch fan. The fan blade will freewheel, even when the clutch isn't engaged. Don't worry about it.
