Ok, here goes. this would be my first post so hello all!

I have a 2003 700 sportsman with no fuel gauge and I have been searching
and have found that the cap gauge is a no go due to the shape of the tank.

So my search began.....I learned that 2004.5 gained the gauge.

I would like to install a 2004 carb wiring harness it has the fuel sender drop verified, a 2004 fuel tank and a 2004 speedo.

crazy I know.......

I needed to verify that the connections for all the components would plug up to my 2003 stuff. The stator just went out so i have ordered the kokusan kit from polaris. The transmission switch, hall effect sensor are the same part # so I believe I can pull this off....unless im missing something.



This machine has 900 miles and a one owner so putting money in it is not an issue, the machine is in mint shape.

Your thoughts??

 

What you need to concern yourself more with is the ignition problems the 2002 to early 2004 models had with the Ducati system. 2004.5 used the Kokusan stator, flywheel,cdi coil,different regulator,etc. Updating may be a hassel on this to get the 2004 gauge,fuel tank,wiring,etc,plus if/when the ignition has problems,just more cost to go through when you have to change to the updated kit.No Ducati parts are available and the kit is over 500 bucks now I believe.

I have the updated ignition on order.
Kit 2202602. I want to install the kit the main harness, fuel tank and speedo. All at the same time.

Looks legit.

 

Then hopefully shouldn't be a problem on this.

I've owned quads that didn't even have a fuel gage. You just remove the gas cap and look in the tank to see how much you have left. If you have a rough estimate of what your fuel economy is, all you would really need to do is just note your odometer reading every time you fill the tank and you would know about when to stop to fill up.

The design of the tank does not allow looking in the tank. After 1/4 tank the fuel isn't even visible. The mileage method is not accurate because of varying driving habits, use of low range and terrain.

I have installed the harness, tank and new gauge. Works nice!

 

With the Kokusan ignition update also hopefully you can get many more years of service from it.
