My Grandson's 2011 Sportsman 90 is not charging the battery. I have read different things about what can cause this but I want to try to find a troubleshooting/testing guide that will tell me where the different components are located and how to go about checking what. All I seem to have found thus far are what usually goes out or you may try to replace,,,,etc. I don't mind buying a manual if I know I'm getting a good one. Any help from Forum readers here would be greatly appreciated.

 

Here's a good service manual for 5 bucks.2011 Polaris Sportsman 90 Service Manual PDF Download Usually it's a regulator problem when battery is not receiving at least 13 volts or more while at an idle, but the manual resistance checks can eliminate the stator as a problem. Plus check the obvious first such as battery connections or for any loose wiring.Plus don't over look a battery itself. If in doubt,charge the battery up and have it load tested.

 

Thanks for the help and recommendation of this manual. Checked it out and sure enough the reg./rectifier must be bad. Open across all the post.
