I have a 2005 yamaha kodiak 450 that has some carb issues. The atv sat for quite a while and when i fired it up it ran pretty bad. The gas had gone bad so i tore it apart and cleaned the carb and put it back in now i have another issue. The choke when pushed revs the engine way to high almost full throttle sounding. How do i adjust the choke so it doesn't rev so high. I have tried adjusting the cable just above where the choke goes into the carburetor but doesn't seem to help. I can use the idle adjustment to bring it down but when i do that the wheeler wont idle with out the choke on. So any ideas on how to fix this?

 

I also drained all the bad gas.

 

Either the pilot jet is still partly blocked so you need the slow running adjuster wound up to compensate, and the excess fuel from the choke makes it idle as fast as it would with a clean carb, or you have an air leak into the manifold, which lets excess air in with the excess fuel when on choke. Apparently Yams are known for split rubber inlet manifolds, so check for cracks.

Idle speed screw or idle speed adjuster in US lingo. Good thing he didn't tell you to use a torch to check for intake manifold cracks... English word for our flashlight,but a little different definition over here.. Sorry merryman,couldn't resist this one..
