Default 06 yamaha kodiak no spark

Hey guys new to this site. I got a 06 yamaha kodiak with no spark. Story is i went out this morning and started it it fired right up and ran no problem. So i was gonna use the quad to boost the ride on mower so i could move it. Anyways i grab the cables put the 2 ends on the floor and was hooking up the other ends to the quad battery. As soon as i hooked up the positive cable the quad died and now it wont start. Im assuming it shorted out. Any ideas what the problem is?

Thanks guys

By "won't start" do you mean it is completely dead, no starter, lights etc, or just won't fire up and run when the starter is turning? If it is dead, check the battery terminals are clean and tight, and the main 30 amp fuse on top of the solenoid.

Try this its a 348cc same motor as your 386cc but it was stroked out from a 64.5mm to a 71.5 mm ,both have the same 83mm bore.

I thought all Kodiaks had a water cooled engine. It could be that pick up coil, but it could be the plug, the ignition coil, CDI, voltage regulator, or a wiring fault. Check the wiring, and if that seems to be OK, get a manual and go through the electrical checks listed in it.
