50cc cobra cant get to turn over or start
#1
hello everyone i have a alpha sport 50cc cobra atv that i picked up not running the other day. it was missing a ignition coil and key so i got a new ignition and ignition coil. now when i go to hit the start button nothing hapens not even a click and when i go to kick start it doesnt even try to fire. i thought next step would be a new cdi but the one that i believe is the cdi on the bike has 7 wires coming out of it with a remote wire antenna. does anyone know how i could possibly bypass the safety switches on this thing to rule out any of them not working and can i switch this over to a regular cdi without the specialty box. thanks in advance any help is much appreciated

thats probably not the cdi your looking at but the remote kill switch box. Sometimes you can just unplug it and everything will work fine.. when u find the cdi pull the black wire with white trace. this is the wire for the klll switches and will bypass all switch/sftey shutoffs

I looked on there website and this is what I found (see pic) I al so hooked up my dpark plug light and im getting spark but still not starting and hitting as start button does nothing. Can I splice the power line going to the starter and just install a push button switch??? I'm lost

Your pic doesn't seem to have worked. However any safety lock outs will have to be set before the starter will turn "on the button," so the handbrake may need to be on, gearbox (if fitted) in neutral etc.
A push button switch to replace the solenoid would have to be very "heavy duty" as the starter takes a lot of Amps, and the starter cables would need to be as thick, and no longer than the ones you have now.

you can get a heavy duty push button start switch from just about anyware. The one i have is 25-30amp, waterproof. I used car audio power wire to wire it to both sides of starter solenoid. Been working great for about 3 years. It was easier than replacing handlebar controls and solenoid and my little one did not want to wait for a month till they came in.. This way you can go to any autoparts store if it fails and get a new one. I just replaced it this winter with a new one because the rubber cover split and let water in making it temperamental
