What are some good upgrades for a sp 500 that will increase throttle response and power? Has any body tried anything? Something I noticed was that some parts were only for 98 and newer sp500's. I have a 96 and I'm desperately looking for some horsepower upgrades???? Please help!!!!

save your money!! for what little you might gain its definately not worth it. many people have tried but no real noticeable gain, at least not for what it costs

I have read that Four Stroke Tech made some upgrades w/ a carb and air box mod. Has anyone heard of this too?? It only ran $320 too. He also added douglas rims and maxxis tires. Then he added a supertrapp muffler. He said it gained 9 mph, and accelerated up to speed in half the time.

so by time you spend 1000 or more for all those mods you will be able to keep up with a new ho sportsman. maybe - i would sell the old one and buy a new one at least you would have a warantee and not a grenade. just my thoughts

Contrary to what most will say, you can get significant gains in older 500's, but it will cost you. We started our '99 back in Aug. '98 and have ST-IDS2, HO cam, 40mm carb, K&N,Wiseco 10.5:1 piston and roller clutch setup I have no problem handling any of the factory 500HO's that I've run across so far. But, you can't go much further. It's about maxed out. For a utility machine, it's not bad. It will take a Grizz with no problem, even on top.
