I own an 86 Honda big red, my big problem are the brushes in the rebuild kit last only one year. This problem has been going on for years. Can anyone give me a supplier that sells brushes that will last?

We fit starter brush kits to all bikes that come in with starter problems, they are both cheaper than a Chinese new starter, and the original starter motor with new brushes will outlast the cheap Chinese new ones. However if the brushes don't last more than two years, we generally recon it is time to fit a new starter, it could be the armature is shorting, leading to excessive sparking, or the com worn down too much.

 

Sounds like may have to recut armature commentator down[resurface] so new brushes can sit flush against commentator for better fit and wear
