Got another question. I have a 1989 Yamaha Moto 4 350 Four Wheel drive. I put a new carburetor on it and still when you try to go full throttle it nose dives. I tore down the motor and checked the cam, the timing chain, the rocker arms the piston and rings and couldn't find anything wrong. I put it back together. The carb is new, could it be bad or are they something else I need to check out. It starts and idles God, doesn't smoke run good up to three quarter throttle, but past three quarter throttle it seems like it don't have enough gas to go on. Any help would be appreciated. Check you are getting a full flow of fuel from the tank to the carb. If your new carb was bought from Yamaha, it should be fit and forget, but if it is a copy carb it will need setting up for your bike, such as jet needle lifting or even a bigger main jet. unless something serious has happened to the old carb, it is usually a lot easier to clean it out, than to set up a new one.

 

would any one have reason my 350 big bear will not shift gears?

 

i own yahma 89 great bike slowly lost gears while shifting and now no gear at all. any tips before i take to shopm and dump another 800 bucks

If you are lucky it will be the star wheel on the end of the shift drum come loose. You can see it if you take the clutch side cover off. Long time since I did it, but I think I had to Loctite a drive pin in place as well, because coming loose had worn the hole it sits in.

 

What is the best way to access to this star?

 

Can't remember, probably visible if you take the clutch cover off.
