im servicing a honda foreman 400 and the ignition switch is fried...cust. doesnt want to pay for another so im trying to see which wires go where from the switch to make something else work for him

 

You can get "non genuine" Honda ignition key switches for next to nothing from eBay, it is not worth the hassle of fitting a made up switch. Hondas usually have two parallel switches in the unit, one (red) feeds a live from battery to ignition (black), the other a live from battery (red/black) to accessories (pink).

 

One caveat, the "universal" fit all Hondas etc, switches may not be right, as they are for earlier, kill wire through ignition type circuits, that models such as the 3 wheelers used.
