Transmission Drain and Fill Location

The nearly 5.5 quarts of engine oil takes care of the transmission also since it's an integral part of the engine.Don't over look the zerk fitting on the rear prop shaft coupler also. Item#18. Have to look through the hole in the box frame to get to it.

Sweet. I took your advice on another thread and switched to Mobil 1 0W-40 and this bike hasn't run quitter since I took it off the lot. Do you know how much lubricant the rear diff takes. I didn't have a leak before but I notice a little around the seal now, possible over filled.

5 ounces Polaris Angle Drive fluid(or 80/90 which is cheaper) for the front,10 ounces for the rear. Here's a link to the lubrication chart.http://polaris.hs.llnwd.net/o40/lub/...e_ORV_2014.pdf Mobil 1 0w40 is good all round oil,but next oil change give Rotella 5w40 a try. Won't hurt the auto clutches(no friction modifiers, jaso rated) and cheaper than Mobil 1 and several of the other good synthetics. Just my two cents on this one..

This bike has been running great with no problems and even better since the lubricants changes. I've used it around the yard moving some logs and the kids are been riding it just fine. Loaded up on the trailer to take it to the deer camp this morning and it went dead and won't start back. I smelled gas real strong so I open up the breather and it was gas in side of there.

Other than sounding like it may need a new plug, sounds like a float sticking or a needle and seat worn causing gas to flow into the air box.If you take a carb off rebuild it don't just try to clean one. Same BST34 carb as used on the 2000 Sportsman 500.Polaris Sportsman 500 Carburetor Repair Kit Fits 1999-2000 Carb: Shindy 03-416 | eBay I'd make sure the oil level is ok and doesn't smell like gas also. A lot of oil to change if it does.

The screw blocks an opening in the bowl that you can use to drain the bowl if needed. The top of the tube is open and if fuel level gets above it,fuel will flow straight out onto the ground. This is the overflow of the brass tube. Remove the carb and bowl, fill bowl with fuel below the top of the tube and see if it leaks. If it does either the bowl screw could be damaged, not able to shut off fuel, or the brass tube may be leaking where it's soldered in the bowl. IF it's not leaking the problem is a worn needle and seat, float level off or sticking, allowing fuel level to go too high and out the over flow tube. Once you take a carb off I'd rebuild it. Nothing worse than to just clean a carb and still have problems.
