I think the 400 uses the same filter as the 500 doesn't it?

The 500 takes:
Fram part number is:
ph6018
The STP filter is:
SMO-18

Ok here's what I'm thinking. I have a 400 and 500 2001 cat. I followed everyones advice and bought those filters mentioned and guess what? They don't fit. I can only get the dealer filters to fit. Texascat tried also and had the same problem on his 2001 auto cat. I haven't seen anyone else with an 01 say it works just the guys with 00 or older. Did it change? I think so. Just buy one and check it but it has not worked for us 01 owners yet. The Fram, purolator, wix, and other filters have coarser threads. The size is right but they just don't fit either of my quads. Can someone else back me up on this one?

I have a 2000 autocat and the threads on my filter are pretty fine. 24tpi. I use the Fram and change the oil every 300-350 miles. The Threads are metric so instead of not being fine enough, they may just have a different thread pitch. Metric size threads have about 4 different pitch or thread angles. That could be the difference. Just my 2 cents.

I had to get my girlfriend to explain it to me. She's a shop/metels teacher. She's good at it too! Makes sense now. Anyone else had the same problem on the 01 cats?

A while back I contacted both Fram and Mobil about oil filters for the Cats. Neither company manufactures a filter at this time.
