What are these metal brackets for on the racks? Are there some accessories made for them?

 

They'e great places to hook bungee cords. They don't have any other purpose than being tie-down points AFAIK.

I thought they had some purpose for polaris accessories or something.

 

They serve two purposes. First, as a tie down spot and second to add rigidity to the front rack plastic. I bought a rack extender for my 2006 Sportsman X2 front rack and used that a good bit as a tie down spot. I miss the under rack storage.

 

A lot of the Lock & Ride accessories use the round holes on the rear rack. Rack extensions and cargo boxes are good examples. Expansion plugs go in the holes and you flip the lever on each one you're done. For the front rack I've seen rack extenders and gun racks that you have to drill holes for. The holes' locations are molded in on the inside of the lid so it's hard to screw it up.

You can buy aftermarket anchors a lot cheaper, that was just the first link I saw with a picture of one. And all the accessories come with the right number of anchors so you don't have to buy them separately. 2 of the guys I ride with have Lock & Ride rear cargo boxes. They ride all day with the box on and can take it off in no time whenever they want to, like if they're doing some work. And the boxes don't move around like some do when they're bungeed on. One guy hauls his quad on an open trailer. He can put his cargo box in the back seat of his truck where no one can mess with it.
