WTB Sportsman 850 High Lifter
#1
Hello,
I'm in the market for a Sportsman 850 High Lifter (I got some mud).
Can anyone suggest how to get the best price?
My local deal is stuck at MSRP, and I've seen/heard reports of being able to get nicely below that.
I don't mind buying from out of state to save money.
Thank you,
Joe

If you can get a better price at another dealer, and your local dealer won't match it, buy from the cheaper dealer, but keep in mind your local dealer may not be happy to work on it when you bought it somewhere else.

I was all ready to buy one from Abernathys when I discovered that it required a personal visit.
I buy stuff online or via the telephone/fax/overnight-papers from all over the world, so this was confusing and disappointing.
I learned that the prohibition against selling without having the buyer present comes from Polaris.
I don't see any justification for this other than protecting territories, which is a little odd as there are commonly several dealers within a reasonable driving distance.
I'm actually pretty aggravated because Abernathys offered a nice price -- far better than my local dealers, but the time and expense of traveling there isn't warranted.
Controlling the distribution of products is a complicated issue, but overall I find it very distasteful and not at all in the consumer's best interest.
Are all the major ATV manufacturers like this?
