Allow me to introduce myself

All,
New to the forum, a 72 year old, retired Electrical Engineer, a diehard desert rat, both ATV and horse back.
what brought me here is a 1996 Polaris 250 Trail Boss that a friend GAVE me... it’s in surprisingly good shape, stored inside it’s whole life... no speedo, no odo, so I have no idea the miles, but looking at the piston and head, both are in excellent shape, very little carbon, everything appears tight, very little scoring on jug walls. When it wouldn’t run, they put it away, and forgotten about. That was two years ago.
The motor runs for about 5 to 10 minutes then dies, I’ve ordered a rebuild kit for the carb, going to rebuild it and replace the fuel filter and all rubber hoses, now my question is this: how do you check the oil pump? I’m assuming the motor must be running before any oil can be pumped... how do you confirm the pump is operating properly, and pumping the correct volume?

Welcome to the forums.
As far as the running and stopping, do a quick check of the gas tank vent line.
Check out the Polaris section here for more help.

I'm a man of wealth and taste.
You can pre-mix some gas 40:1 and run that while you pull the oil line off and see if it has a steady flow of oil. I think it only drips but would be one drop after another. If it is flowing, it should increase when you rev it up.
