2001 Sportsman 500

I have a Few Questions about the 500-
how does the on-Demand 4-wheel drive system work is it good or Bad?
How Reliable is the Engine?
How Good is it in Deep Snow?
How far can it go and a Full tank of gas?
What is the top Speed of one?
How Good is it in mud?
whats its Towing Capacity?
How would you Rate the atv on a Scale of 1-10
Thanks,
Andy

Well I just got mine a little over a week ago and have been too busy to ride it as much as i would like but I can answer a few of those questions for you. The on demand fourwheel drive seems to work good to me you can feel it when it kicks in. like I said I just got so don't know how it handles snow. my first tank I went only 60 miles but it sat and idled quite a bit, they say over 18 when you work them hard and my dealer said if your nice to them you can get close to 40 mpg, but that seems like he's stretching it a little. I have had mine to 54 but it seemed like it had quite a bit more in it then that, magazines say 54. there fast but don't feel quick speeding up. They go through a lot of mud I was going through mud up to the running boards stopped and backed out without a problem, that is about 12 inches deep. Towing capacity is rated at 1225 but I haven't tried it out. Its a pretty awesome bike I would say.

#1 4x4 is the best out right now
#2 I havent had a problem with the engine
#3 I only had it it 7" of snow,no problems
#4 I get around 75 miles per tank
#5 my speedo goes to 60 but it would go past the 60 mark so I would say 63....Then I put new wheeles on and lost 6-7mph
#6 12" ground clearance,IRS,True 4x4...how do you think it is in the mud........By far the best(for now)second to none!!!!
#7 The only thing I'v towed is a couple of hondas out of the mud.And yes they pull me out to...
#8 I would give it an 8.5

If the 500 is anything like my Sportsman 400 it is a great machine. The 4wd setup is one of the best if not the best out. Only bad thing is it weighs alot. I didn't mind it when going from a TrailBoss to my new Sportsman. I would never trade back that is for sure.
