Default 01 scrambler 500 2x4 gearing questions

So last summer I bought a 12t sprocket for my scrammy. Made a bit of difference on torque and take off. Top end is 76 mph on GPS ( about 1/2 mile straight stretch) bike gets to 60 pretty quick and creeps to topspeed. We only ride trails here in the UP and my gf rancher tops out at 53 mph. So my thinking is to gear down (?). I ordered a 42tooth for the rear in the hopes of a 55 ish top speed with enuff torque to pull front wheels up easily at 35-40 mph on the trail to be able handle rough terrain easier at speed. I just bought a new stock length chain about a month ago, am I going to have to add some links or is the stock chain going to be long enuff? Also any thoughts on gearing options? Have a hotseat slip on, custom bent 2" exgaust from header back, and a clutch kit ( unknown brand and stall but I can almoat not move in reverse unless I hold the override).
