Question Coolster 125-New Battery/Won't Start

Hi guys, my father in law got my son a Coolster 125 a year and half ago for Christmas...Has always ran fine, a few minor issues here and there but the battery finally died and wouldn't take a charge. I bought a new battery, charged it and put in the machine. Now it won't fire.
1. I thought the alarm might be reset on it, dug around and found the remote (batteries are still good), made sure it was unlocked and it won't start.
2. I don't have a neutral light any more (or forward or reverse). Not sure if this happened before or after the battery, but if memory serves, it would crank up in gear as long as he had his foot or hand on the brakes.
3. I do have a brake light lit up when I hit the brakes; but it dims slightly when I hit the start button. The motor does not turn over, no clicking, no anything.
Any pointers to start me on my quest? He's ready to move up in size this Christmas but I have a friend who is wanting to buy this one for his son for Christmas so I want to start now so I have plenty of time to fiddle with it and get it running.
I have dug around in several areas but haven't found a post that is exactly like mine. I realize it may be a starter solenoid but am not sure if there is a forward/neutral/reverse switch that it is not able to read first since I'm not getting a light.
Thanks in advance for any advice or help

Take a wire or screwdriver across the terminals of the starter relay.. If you can get it to turn over from their then the problem is farther up the chain

I was able to get it to crank by shorting out the starter solenoid and figured that must be what the problem was...so you're saying if I put a new one on that's not going to fix it?

Now i would jump the trigger wire on the solenoid and see if that part works and keep working your way back to the switch until you find the part that not working.
