06 400ex big down after half throttle after ride
#1
Hey new to this forum, went riding for a few hours and toward end of my ride quad would big down and almost did out after half throttle. Took carb off checked float looked ok, changed plug, started up and did same thing. In addition now when gas is on is pisses out the overflow of carb and now won't start like there is no power to it. Any help would b appreciated.

Well, the float needle wasn't stuck before, but is now. Take the float bowl off again and clean those jets properly. I take them out one at a time and blow them, and the holes they came out of, out with compressed air. Take the float off and clean both needle and seat.

So I got a new carb instead of messing with the old one for now so now i have time on rainy day to tinker with it, now the neutral light does not come on and won't start sometimes, no broken wires and yes bulb works, it will pop start but not by electric start. I replaced assembly switch to new one and still same problem. I'm tired of pop starting it any ideas?

Check the voltage at the battery, if it goes over 15v it may do strange things to the CDI resulting in misfires or, at the worst, blowing the CDI altogether. If it does go over 15v as you rev up, fit a new voltage regulator.
As you were getting the same symptoms with both old and new carb, it looks like it wasn't that at fault, but it only takes 10 min to take those jets out on the old carb, blow them out and put them back, I would be tempted to try that before, spending any more. However, if it isn't a voltage reg problem, coil, CDI or stator could be the culprit and CDIs and stators are expensive.

After half throttle it bogs down or won't rev up any more, with new carb, plug, stater, battery. I was told to look for an air leak before the carb but I didn't find one and now someone said valves or timing. Are any of these a possibility?
