Default 2019 Apollo Commander 110cc Upgrades

I bought my son a new Apollo Commander 110cc. The first thing I've noticed is the carb and air filter seems to be one of the first things that needs upgraded. I've taken the stock carb off (PZ19) and cleaned it once. I had to take my dremel and cut a notch in the fuel bowl screws to get a flat head on them. Cleaned it up good. It seems to do fine until he splashes through mud holes. The open air filter then seems to get wet and it runs rough for a while after that.

I've been searching Amazon and Ebay for either a PZ20 or PZ22. Preferably with a choke cable hook up which has been hard to find. I've also been trying to find a solution to the air filter getting wet going through mud holes. The only option I've see is a "Splash proof air filter" found on both sites.

I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys on your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Not too well up on those little carbs, but I assume PZ20 and PZ22 are bigger, if so, don't bother. If the carb isn't big enough it will restrict top speed, but the standard carb should be the right one for the engine size, a bigger bore of carb means slower air speed through it, so less suction of the fuel through the jets and poorer mixing of the fuel/air.

I would guess you can rig up some sort of airbox and snorkel tube for any bike, but again, there is an "air ram" effect to the length of intake and it may affect performance at certain revs, the bigger the pipe, the less this effect is liable to be. You are more likely to get ignition problems when going through mud holes on Chinese bikes, as wiring connectors etc are rarely waterproof on them.

Thanks for the reply! Yes your are correct about the PZ20 and 22 being bigger. From what I've gathered the number indicates the MM size. So a PZ19 is a 19MM bore size. He definitely doesn't need top end speed. If anything it needs more lower end torque. Which I'll get in to that later with possibly a larger sprocket.

I didn't consider the wires getting wet to be a factor, but I will definitely check in to that. I have considered snorkeling it up through the front fenders, but man they really don't give any extra wiggle or working room at all on this mini lol. Thanks for your input! 👍
