Helping a friend fix a Polaris
#1
I'm helping one of my friends fix his polaris fourwheeler. I've never done much with this brand of a fourwheeler, although I do have two stroke experience with other machines. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me if I have any questions.
I can't remember what the model it is(maybe a mid 90's 325 or something), but he rolled it back off a hill, so I'll be doing a lot of body work and will need some help in the area of the carburater. I'm not sure what the problem with it is, at idle it is up and down up and down up and down. It does like it is taking gas but only for a second. I'm not the best carb person, and will probably wind up taking the carb to someone else to be fixed. The push button four-wheel drive is also messed up, but I think that the button is just broke, I'll have to get back on that one.
If anyone who has experience will be willing to help me please e-mail me at bluehonda4x4@hotmail.com
I'm sure after I get started I will have some questions with some electrical components on the bike that I am un-familiar with.
Thanks for any help in advance.

If at idle it sounds a bit like a Harley, it might be because of the rev limiter cutting in. There is a micro switch in the thumb throttle, that engages the limiter when the throttle is released. The quickest way to test is to push the override button in while idleing. If it is this, drop the idle RPM a bit untill it falls under the limiter.
If it is not this, you might have some crap in the PJ, but this will also show if you are using low revs as well as idle.
You may also have some crap jamed in the 4x4 button. I got this when my bike was rolled for me (yes I lent it to someone - fool). Take it apart and clean it and it should work.
Any parts of tech type questions, Rick Ritter at Ritter Cycle Racing is the one to talk to.

The "engine up - down" thing sounds like a vacuum leak. Check all the carb mountings. Sounds like it is sucking in raw air. With it running, spray around the carb with some carb cleaner. If it changes the sound of the engine, you have a leak.
