Problems with compression on Trailblazer
#1
Got a 2000 TB and only have 105 lbs. of compression. Mechanic says I need to rebuild top end. Does this sound right.
It is only 6 months old and we ride dunes every other weekend. Does the sand cause a loss of compression this quick? Is ther anything I can do to prevent this?
Is it the sand dunes that is working the engine too much?
Is 105Lbs of compression that bad?
Help me my warranty just ran out.

Thats not that awful bad, How is the quad running? If the compression seems low the first thing you need to check before you do anything drastic is check the automatic compression release and be sure it is not causing the compression loss? This is what enables you to crank the Quad with the Pull rope without yanking your arms out of joint. May want to ask someone else and be sure that that model is eqipped with that feature first I don,t have the specs on that machine here in the house where I can get my hands on it.

You may not necessarly have to rebuild the top end. You may get lucky and just have a bad head gasket, hopefully. You said you ride in the dunes a lot? Has any sand, or dirt ever entered the motor? The harsh riding conditions of the sand might put unnormal wear on your motor. I'm not a dune rider, so I'm not sure, but its my best guess. A top end rebuild isn't as bad as it sounds. If it is just piston and rings you can get by for less than a 100 bucks. Hope I could help...stick
