It shouldn't burn the belt... What exatly are you & the machine doing when this happens? What type of terrain is it?

I am not positive, but I doubt a change in spring would help much.

You did not tell what year scrambler you have but my 99 has a blue/green primary spring and 10WH (46 gram) weights in it stock with a silver driven clutch spring. The 500 sportsman non-EBS comes with a blue/green and 10 MH 50.5 gram weights and a red secondary spring which is much lighter than the silver. If you have ridden an non-EBS sportsman and I takes off to suits you then just order 3 10 MH weights ~15 bucks total and but them in. If you want to have even lower engagement then get a little heaver weight. This will change the shiftout rpm (the rpm that the tranny shifts at) It will lower this rpm and may put it where the motor is not putting out as much power at this rpm. If this is the case you just need to tighten up the secondary spring my bike came with the spring in the #2 on the pulley and the #1 on the helix. Just tighten put the springs in holes that are tighter. Tightest to loosed on the pulley is #1, #2, #3 and on the helix the 2 is the tightest. This will raise up the shift rpm and also increase backshift. You can get the rear tension too tight and cause the bike to rev too high and loose top speed due to incomplete shiftout. This will work I just can't give you specific settings due to me increasing the stall on my bike.

Hope this helps

Rob

PS The blue/green spring is the lightest spring I am aware and the weights are an easy change. If you need some info on what to do drop me a line. But I don't check my mail very regularly.
