Default LT80 shuts off when hot

I recently purchased a 1996 LT80. The previous owner had it for a couple years for his son to learn to race on. It appears mostly stock except for a DG pipe and speed gearing kit. He did say that he recently put on a new carb. It starts up and idles great. When my son is riding it, it runs good for about 5-10 minutes and then it begins to lose power then just dies like ran out of gas. After a while it will fire up and run for a minute or two and does it again. Although yesterday, I could not get it started again. I have read on here about the petcock issues so I did purchase a banshee petcock but haven't installed it yet. I did also check the compression and it was 120 psi. The first time he rode it I noticed the oiler line had popped off but it was only off for a couple minutes before I noticed it and put it back on. I was hoping it didn't screw anything up and that's the main reason I checked compression. Could it be a coil/cdi issue?

Heat is usually electronics.
Stator ohms at 170 +/- 20%
Sorry, wish I could help more.

Hi LT80, thanks for the reply. I did install the banshee petcock this weekend and it ran good for quite a while with out shutting off but the kids never ran it hard so not sure if it got hot enough. Going to run it a little harder this week to test it out. It does have trouble pulling the kids up hills so I think I may need to look at the clutches. When they are shut off, should they roll freely? This one has drag to it and there is a grinding/gripping noise coming from the clutch area. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like clutch maint is a good idea.

Hi LT80,
I put the banshee petcock on it and it doesn't shut off anymore. But what it does now is when he runs it hard for about 5-10 minutes, it looses all power and will not even pull its own weight. If I lift the rear end off the ground it winds out and runs good. But under load it has no power. I let it set for about half hour and once it cooled down it ran decent just around the yard putting around. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks

Do clutch maint.
Do a comp test when it's hot and loses power.

I will try a comp test this weekend after if gets hot. Also need to check out the clutches too as you suggested. It still has automatic oiler on it and when I pull the line a little drop comes out every couple seconds while it is sitting still running. Does that sound like enough oil? Thanks for your advice!
