96 scrambler hub seal
#1
Hi all. Long time lurker, 1st time poster.
I recently acquired an old scrambler in trying to bring back to life. Been through top to bottom and everything is back to working order but I can’t seem to figure out why the hub seal is leaking. I’ve poured through tons of old threads racking my brain about it. Pressed in a new seal. Still leaks. Installed a speedi sleeve over the coil sleeve. Leaks yet.
Guess my 1st question is, which way does the seal face. The manual I found says to install with with spring facing the hub casting, which I assume means the spring side faces the oil.
In old posts by the legendary, Oldpolaristech, I read it’s the opposite and the spring faces the strut which to me, makes more sense to me as the tapered lip of seal would slide over the sleeve without mushrooming over.
Have another seal, part number 3610019 on the way.
