how are your polaris xped.425cc's working
#1
I was wondering how other peoples y2k polaris
xpedition 425 cc's are working. I have had some minor problems. each time, the shop says
nothing is wrong and they top off my fluids. No charge. The red light came on once. I halled it out. I only have 355 miles on it. The transmission was low on fluid. Had it checked after 190 miles so dont know why it was low. The tran. low would not make the red light come on any way. The red light is for an overheated engine. I have not tried it out yet since I got it back. I love the machine and the power. Just wondering if any other y2k expedition users have had any early strange problems? chet lake

Hey Chet,
I've had my Xpedition since July. Got close to 500 miles on it. I've had one problem. After about 300 miles the reverse lockout mechanisim on the top right of the transmission wouldn't always disengage. It acted like it had dirt or mud keeping it from returning. I was going to pull it apart and clean it, but decided to take it back to the dealer. They said the part had been superceeded, and replaced it. There was a noticable difference in the cover gasket (it had one). I can see this might be a recurring problem. I like the feature, but I'm not sure about the design. Other than that I'm totally satisfied with the bike. Need to get a few other xpedition owners on here to see if they're as happy with them as I am.

Thanks Dusty! yes, I hope so to. I was wondering how many people have bought one. I went to my dealer twice with my machine and they said they really do not know how to fix them yet. I e-mailed polaris. They told me to
try another dealer. I went to this other dealer twice. Sometimes its hard to put it in neutral when I shut it off in another gear. I
do know about parking on flat land and all that. Im hoping my troubles were break in problems and nothing is wrong now. But the read light comming on and the shop did not find anything wrong. worries me a little bit.
My 6 months warranty is now up. Our machines have some new technology in them. That second
shop told me that I was also the first one to
bring in an expedition for repairs. They said
they did not even have the tech. manuals for the expedition yet. I dought that I got the greatest service. Dont get me wrong though. I
do love driving that machine. My kids like it
to. I used it grouse hunting this year. When it wasn't in the shop that is. I will use it bow deer hunting in the future. Hopefully, to
haul out my deer and bring me back and forth.
I even use it fishing on remote lakes. I bought mine in april. You are really putting the miles on fast. I hope to hear others comments as well......... from chet lake

I don't think your transmission has a problem. That's common on standards. Mine doe's it too. Just have to rock it a little sometimes. When I got mine the mechanic told me that the coolant level would probably drop because of air in the system. He said not to worry about it and he would check it at my first service. The coolant did drop. I just bring this up because i suppose that could have caused the problem with your overheating. As far as the oil level dropping, thats normal also on a new engine. I think it took about 200 miles or so for the rings to finally seat on mine. It didn't drop alot, but i must say i was concerned everytime i got done riding to see the airfilter drain tube half full of oil. Doesn't do it anymore. Accidently learned something about the auto clutch the other day. Shifting to 2nd with my clod hoppers on i didn't release the shifter, gave it some gas, the motor reved, released the shifter and about flipped it over. Suprised the hell out of me and the guy I was riding with. Who says a 650 lb quad can't wheelie.
See ya,

thanks, I will check that out. It gets cold in minnesota and my dad put away the hose for the winter. I use and store my atv at his house because its way up north where i use the atv. I have been in a great deal of mud so will get hose and wash. They sure seem touchy! thanks again. chet

My 425 Expedition has close to 800 on it and so far it purrrrs like a kitten. I am vamped and do a great deal of serious mud and muskeg running. So far it has been great no problems and I can go farther on a tank of gas than the other quads I run with. The 4 wheel drive on Polaris quads are by far the best I have seen. I am not bashing any quad to me they are all good but each one has different options. Each to his own, sure when i bought my quad my buddies razzed the crap out of me for buying one. However thier attitude has changed quite abit after they seen it in action. I must admit I looled at at lot of quads and i kept going back to polaris because of the true 4 wheel drive. Sure I was worried about how reliable they are. But after looking at older Polaris quads I could understand the bashing they took. I thought they were crap, however the 99 and 2000 models look great and are built alot better. Only time will tell?
