my dealer sold me some full coverage cv guards for my autocat and, while the looked great in the box, they absolutely suck in performance. first of all, they don't come up as high in the front as the stock guards did and they hold mud. first thing this weekend, i'm going to take those shovels off and put my stock guards back on.

later,

texascat

I have a set of the Arctic Cat boot guards I bought for my 500 auto, the term shovel is right on...they are for sale..cheap...the new 400 has the factory guards which let the mud fall away, but don't really protect from the bottom side... much better overall....OTTO

I have AC boot guards on my Cat too, but they don't seem to be the same as you guys are describing. Mine have a heavy piece of mud flap type material that is folded in an "L" shape attached to a bracket that bolts to the lower "A" arm. It only protects the outer boot, but I have a Long metal piece attached to the axle protectors and it seems to be doing the job protecting the inners. I do a lot of riding out across the desert and we have lots of sage brush that can puncture boots. I also ride in the mountains and there are plenty of tree limbs and rocks there also.

I'll try and get a picture of what I'm talking about and post it later.

I've taken the pictures and now have them posted for all to see. Go to the my pictures link below.

The AC guards are the ones covering the outer boots.I would like to have your opinions, good or bad on these things that I have fabricated for the axle and the inner boot. I plan on using 3/8 inch stainless steel mesh for the lower "A" arms. This will let Mud, however infrequent and other crud to fall out. It will how ever be able to stop sticks and such from going up into the boot.

I had had my original homemade protectors on now for 14 months and 2500 miles and haven't got any holes yet. Knock on wood.
