570 Sportsman, need to increase charging rate
#1
I'm about to increase the electric load on my 570 sportsman EPS.
Just got a new rear mounted sprayer to spray the pasture. Haven't actually used it but assume the draw will be substantial.
How can I increase the charging output?

I don't know the sportsman, but the charging system on a decent sized bike is usually up to the extra load. Think about it, the charging system has to cope with two 55w bulbs plus tail and brake lights when riding at night. This is continuous, apart from the brake, and still has to charge the battery back up to cover the power used in starting. Sprayers often switch on and off as the pressure builds and falls. Short of a high output alternator there is not much you could do anyway, an extra battery, wired in parallel, would give increased capacity so, if it does run down it would do so slower. Make sure battery terminals and earth are clean and tight, also earths on frame and engine. I repaired a Honda 450 last week, (wire broken at CDI) but the owner also complained it wasn't charging properly, checked and I couldn't get more than 13v. Tried a new regulator, no better. After a lot of faffing I found the main fuse had slight corrosion on the spades, cleaned it and charging instantly jumped to 14v.
