Default 21 Taotao New Tforce Atv

Someone I work with just gave me a 21 taotao tforce atv. He bought it 3 years ago brand new. It has 22 hours on it and he said his grandson was riding it, turn it off. He told him go put it up and wouldn’t start back. It’s not getting spark. He replaced the coil pack & cdi box. He got tired of messing with it and gave it to me. Any ideal what to check? Or is anything common on these going back causing that? Like get it going for my daughter.

Do you see any cut electrical connections/bad grounds? Are you sure it’s not getting spark by turning the engine over with the spark plug against bare metal?
These Chinese ATVS are extremely easy to work on and the parts are very cheap. Maybe the carb is dirty and there’s no significant fuel running towards motor?

With my experience with these machines, your better off buying a whole new wiring harness with stator, keys, switch, CDI’s and such. They cost about 45-50$ after tax and just replace everything on it. These little Chinese ones are an electrical nightmare for someone with no experience with them. I’m an atv mechanic and these guys love to give me a run for my money and time. Hondas Kawasakis Yamahas Can-AMs are remarkably easier to work on. Just buy a new harness with cdis and such and get back to us👍🏽

With 22 hours on it the wiring etc, should be like new and those universal harnesses always give their own headaches, like things on the original bike that don't connect to the new harness. Unless the previous owner has hacked the wiring, it is far easier to find the fault using the "help diagnose stator" sticky at the top of this page, and buy a replacement part for whatever is wrong.

I confirmed it and it’s not getting spark. However I realized the indicator is staying light on drive no matter what gear it’s in. Not sure if that could be issue if got like a neutral safety switch. Also the start button on kill switch doesn’t work so having use my key fob to turn engine over. He replaced the cdi box & stator. People are telling me to just unplug that kill switch to see if it’s the issue but I read you have bypass it by rewiring?

the only thing original owner done was replace cdi & coil with no spark issue. His grandson parked it than went back to start so could put it up and wouldn’t start back so lost spark. Only 22 hrs on it. The gear indicator is staying light on drive no matter which gear it’s in. Could that be an issue does it have a neutral safety switch? Also the start button isn’t working so having turn it over with key fob. Wasn’t sure if maybe kill switch is bad and someone told me just unplug it to see. But I read you have like rewire it to bypass it? So I’m confused on that.

do you have a link that comes with all that? I couldn’t find one for mine. I also could use the kill/ start switch. Also the indicator is staying stuck on drive light no matter the gear it’s in. Could that be a issue does it have a neutral safety switch? And ya I have the degree in small engine mechanics but never dealt with the Chinese 4wheelers. Like you say only ever dealt with Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki.

As I wrote above, take a look at the help diagnose stator sticky and learn how CDI ignition systems work from that. It does look like you have some wiring problems, which MacAttackk's suggestion of a rewire with new components would cure. However these "universal" harnesses don't have things like gear indicator wires, so will present headaches that way. The start button may not work if it thinks the bike is in gear, due to a lock-out circuit, and older Hondas produce a weaker spark when in gear too, so sorting the gear indicator switch and circuits would be a good place to start with the non working start button. The kill wire is usually the black white from CDI to ign switch and kill switch, to check if switches are working, either will show earthed, then open circuit on the black white when the switches are moved from stop to run.

where can I find that diagnose stator sticky to look at? Also I looked at the wiring diagram and it shows it has a shifter sensor. Would that be the shifting issue cuasing it to not show correctly on the indicator or would it be the actual indicator needing replaced?

At the top of this section (engine problems) is a "sticky" section, there are only about half a dozen threads there, one is "help diagnose stator"

Can't say if your problem is a "sensor" or the wiring. Unlikely to be the indicator display itself, though water can get into digital display circuits.
