Guys,
I was messing around with the rear shock preload tonight. I hopped up on the DS & kind of bounced up & down "testing" the suspension. I notice it felt weird like the back tires stay on the ground but the DS rocks side to side a little. I get to checking & with the back tires off the ground the rear axle will slide left to right & it will rock up & down. The bearing bolts (the ones you tighten when adjusting the chain are fine) & I even did the rear axle cone bearing adjustment trick. But no luck.
Unless I skipped something....But I'm sure I checked & did everything right.
Also, it says to check the axle at the 10 hour inspection. It just had it's 10 hour check & it only has about 3 hours on it since then !
Any ideas out there ????

on the left side of the axle and situated about 2 inches from the brake rotor is an adjustment. Loosen the locking nut and then hand tighten the adjusting cam( for lack of a better name) you just put your hand around and twist it to take up the slop and then retighten the locking nut. All of these adjustments need to be done with the rear tires off the ground - block it up under the axle housing.
good luck

Thanks,
But I already tried that. It's still "sloppy".

Are you sure that you are turning the axle lock the correct direction, I believe it turns the opposite direction you would expect to tighten!

If this doesn't work, one of the bearings itself may have come out of it's housing. You might need to pull the brake hub off to access the bearings.

Not being familiar with the DS, take this for what it is worth. It takes no time at all to smoke the bearings in the housing if they are loose when you ride. Riding hard, your machine is heavier, and wider, these things all add more stress to the bearings. This is going to be true for you unless the DS has tapered bearings, which I don't think it does.
I would suggest removing the axle to check the bearings ASAP as they will damage your axle, hub, and carrier if they come apart which they will do if you keep riding on bad bearings. Also, once the inner race comes apart, those pressed in bearings are a true bitch to get out.
Replacing the bearings is a fairly straightfoward job that can be accomplished by a compatent do it yourselfer with bacic hand tools.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Thanks guys,
I took the DS to the dealer today. I just bought it Mar-30th. He said he has seen one do this also. I said I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. The dealer assured me the DS is a reliable quad & not to worry. I hope it's just a fluke!
It's under warranty at least.
I hope I have it back for next week-end. At least today was crappy weather wise so I don't feel as "cheated" by this problem.
I can't wait to ride it again though

I remember there being some problems with those bearings failing prematurely. Once they are replaced (and maintained) properly they were not having future problems. Good that they are covering it, parts are around 50 bucks and up, rather spend it on gas, right?

Sure thing Kasier.
Ridzhard, no kidding. Yesterday while trailering it to the dealer the wind was blowing pretty good. My truck (2000 Dodge QC w/off-road pkg) was getting 8MPG when I checked the trip computer!!!!
A 360 V-8 & 4:10's are murder! Heck, my 1969 IH gets somewhere around 8 MPG. Of course on that windy day it would have probably got 6 MPG
I'm not ready to give up my fullsize truck for an Accord just yet though Maybe I'll just use the DS to get around on?
