Thinking of buying a Rancher
#3
I have had my Rancher 2X4 for a few months now, and I have to tell ya this is a perfect quad. It's easy to ride, and simple to have fun on. Not to say 4X4's are not fun, but with 2WD, you have very nimble steering and can just play all day on it, as well as put it to work.
I have a pal with a 450 Foreman, and after he tried to lose me on hills, through tough terrain, etc., he now wants to give his wife the Foreman so he can get a Rancher 2WD. Granted, I have no plans to go mudding, it's just not what I do... I love trails and hills, and the Rancher fits the bill to a "T". Best of luck in your search for a quad, my recommendation is that you ride them all.

I already have a 01 Wolverine and love it....but I want another quad mainly for my son. We will will be just riding mostly woods trails and just a little mudding, nothing serious. I kinda figured this would be just a good all around fun machine, something he and I could both enjoy riding and do any nessasary work when needed. I have been told by the dealer they have a very tight turning radius. Also this quad should hang with the Wolverine easily.

Dirtpig- I think the rancher 2wd would fit you perfect. although I would go with the ES. It's a rock solid system that once you ride with it for about 15min and get adjusted to it; you will not want to go back. Plus you get an awesome set of floorboards and a great speedo/odometer/hourmeter. I've modified mine to run with the 4x4 in the mud and still let me play. But, unfortunately I'm being forced to sell it due to the fact I now must pay for a wedding. You will definitly not be disappointed with the rancher.
00' rancher4x2es, 1500lb winch w/ 50ft cable, 26x12" mudrunners on the rear, herculined rack, 55wt back up light.

i got the 2x4 standard shift and it is great. though stock it's not really good at mud it still is great for pretty demanding off-road conditions. power wise this thing has TOURQE! you can wheelie it sooo easy. speed wise it can hang with a stock 300ex with no problems at all. and for suspension and comfort it's good until your at really high speeds becuse the ride really gets bumpy.
so far mine has been reliable. no mechanical problems at all. you wont be disapointed if you get it. also when you get it imediantly by a winch of some sorts, you can get a ratchet winch for 30 bucks or a electric winch for 200-300 bucks.

Dirtpig: The Rancher is an excellent choice. However I would highly recommend the ES version. Your kid will have better feet protection due to the awsome full foot boards and the ES simply once one is use to it is 10x's better than the old standard shifting models. I grew up on Manual shifting quads and 3wheelers, NEVER thought i would like the ES versions, now I would never go back. It is worth the extra money. Good luck and ride safe.

i plan 2 get a Rancher 4x4 ES , in a week or 2 , if the bank approves me 4 $

i had a Kaw. Mojave , for 5 or so years . i am in NEPA , i'm going 4 a 4x4 this time , w/ sno here [ i pushed my Mojave enough in winter ] . + i think a Rancher looks very sporty 4 a utility type of atv . & the size aint 2 bad either [ 4 me @ least , coming from owning a racer ]
i have been knee deep in Rancher 4 um's , Honda.com & picture galleries for about 2-3 months now , gauking @ Ranchers . i can name almost every spec on them [ like the fuel reservior holds .8 gall's , { no life , i kno ...... lol } ].
in short , i have heard many good things about them . also how the ES is quite easy 2 get used 2 .
i hope we both enjoy a Rancher , if we both get there .

dirtpig,
I dont know if you are dead set on getting a 2x4 but for $5000.00 you can get a 4x4ES. In fact you can pick up a 4x4S for $4750.00. Now for the extra five to eight hundred bucks, your getting an incredible Quad. Plus after this summer you will be able to go from 2wd/4wd thanks to Highlifters Unlocker. Do what you think is best, but for a few extra $$ you have got to be nuts not to consider the posibilities.
Good luck
