almost 2 hours changing sprockets on 98' Trailboss
#1
got to be the longest time I have ever spent changing sprockets on a quad almost 2 hours, finally got a chance to see how this quad is set up, not very impressed.
in order to change the sprockets you have to not only remove the normal stuff [wheel, hub, guard over front sprocket]but the way this is set up is nerve racking you also have to take off the entire rear brake assembly and rotor [which is connected on the same shaft the sprocket is on] wouldnt this put a lot of stress on the chain when you use the back brakes? It also always makes this loud clanking noise when the back brakes are in use [probably from the chain suddenly tightening every time you hit the brakes] so it uses the chain to stop the back wheels basically.
In order to take the front sprocket OFF, you have to remove this "C" clip that fits into this little groove on the shaft which is the only thing that holds the sprocket from slipping off, also took a long time just to remove that clip because the area is too small to stick tools into to remove it.
I dont get why Polaris designed it this way it makes no sense to me. i'm not trying to bash this quad, Just sharing the crap I had to go through just to change sprockets on a POLARIS. couldnt they come up with something easier than this?
