Well, it's got me wondering! How many of you have been inside your carburetors, and found that from the factory, the floats were adjusted too high? (according to the manual specs) I readjusted mine very carefully to what the book said, and have now got a problem with my Raptor starving for fuel at top end. (It's not the main jets, or an obstruction in the strainer; all that was checked!) All of a sudden it runs out of fuel and the engine will backfire and quit, but will start right back up in a few seconds. It's like the float bowl runs out of fuel. It seems to run OK at slower speeds. I am pretty sure that my problem originated with this change. I am wondering how many of the rest of you have readjusted your float levels, and what problems if any you have encountered. I feel that if the float level came "high" from the factory, there must be a reason for it. Any of your experiences on this subject would be appreciated, as I am trying to sort out this gremlin on my machine!

i had the same problem.i readjusted the floats and set them between factory spec and what they were set at.also i did these adjustment when rejtting for air box and exhuast mods and do belive some of the problem was due to not having large enough main jets.after spliting the diff on the float heigh it still ran out of fuel on long runs, but after getting the jetting correct it runs fine.by lowering the float heigh half way betwwen spec and what they were set at i cured the problem with it stumbling when climbing a steep incline.hope this helps

I lowered my floats 2mm. more than the service manual specified (15mm.). It may have had a little bit better bottom end throttle response set at 13mm. but I was trying to cure a sputtering problem and lowering the floats more seemed to help. Even with the floats at 15mm. there is no problem with top end power.

Thanks,.guys...this is what the forum is all about. I just needed to validate my suspicions before tearing into the carbs again. So what was the exact float level in mm that you all have found to be the cure? I don't remember what my carbs were set at before. ANYONE else with feedback, please respond.
