So far Ive got over 800 miles on my 400 Xplorer and the chain hasnt given me any problem but I want to buy a spare to carry with me just in case. Should I buy another stock Polaris chain or is there another brand that would be better?

When dealing with chains, buy the best you can afford. Just remember, if it came with an o-ring, replace with an o-ring. If it came with a non o-ring, replace with non o-ring. If it did have an o-ring, you'll need a chain press to put the master link on. I tried it without one, ten bloody knuckles later, I realized I needed one.

Whats a "chain press"? I've replaced the chains on my Scrambler and didn't need one.. All I used was a pair of needle nosed pliers.
We changed out the chain on my buddys Sportsman 400 in no time with that same pair of pliers...
As for what brand of chain... I put a Krause 520 o-ring on the middle sprocket set just because I HATE adjusting the front end.. it doesn't stretch NEAR as often as the factory one...

Those Sidewinder chains seem to be the best made, but an RK usually gets the job done for a cheap price, just won't last quite as long.

I use pliers for putting on master links too, and it's pretty easy, but I have been thinking of getting one of those $5 tools, it might save some time.

Rooster, do you have a Sidewinder? I have heard mixed things. I bought a cheap replacment chain because it was an "emergancy" and it shows, the o-rings are coming out, it's stretching, etc... so don't buy the cheapest!

Thanks for the info guys.
Yeah I think I need a chain press too. I tried to take the rear chain appart one time and I could not get the master link out. i tried pliers, vise grips, and a screwdriver and hammer and it never budged...and yes i took the clip off first...lol I finally just said screw it...or something along those lines...lol
