Raptor and FX shootout in the latest issue of 4 wheel atv action
#1
I received my mag last week and still no-one has posted info about it, so I'll get the info out there. We all know how these mag's operate, so take it as you will.
In a nutshell, MX course, drag racing, and hill climbing was too close to call with pro riders. FX was a better duner with 2-stroke like power.
There was some mechanical troubles with the FX and it will be tough getting any more power out of it since it is in a high state of tune as-is.
One other thing that I am sure made a big difference is the Raptor was fitted with Holeshots like the FX.
The Raptor was considered the winner. I bet it's a while before the FX wins a shootout because it's not one of the BIG 4. Polaris is just now getting over it's initial growing pains as far as shootouts are concerned.
If anyone wants, I can give a little more detailed info.

They did drag race the two quads and they are almost dead even but they gave the edge to the Raptor. The two quads are very closely matched all except for the big price difference! WOW! The Raptor was also rated to have the best suspension of the two! That's pretty impressive since the Cannondale is equipped with the high priced Ohlin shocks.

In Dirt Wheels they did a shootout B/T the DS, raptor, 400EX, FX 400, and Banshee. It gave the drag race top speed to the Cannondale by 2 MPH's or so. I don't know how the raptor got better suspension, when the cannondale has 1.5" more travel at the rear. Well, like you said, we all know how the magazines work.

I think the price had alot to do with it. The FX400 was more expensive, but that didn't correlate directly into more performance and handling. Once they get it dialed in and a few of those little quirks worked out it should be hard to beat. It will be interesting to see how the Cannibal version of the FX400 compares with the Raptor. Only a $500 price difference between the two.

That is the new model Cannondale just released. It is a cheaper version of the FX400. It has different shocks and steel wheels. It has the same motor, but the power curve is different so it will be easier to ride on the trail.
