To Wiseco, Or not to Wiseco....That is my question....

Hi Guys,
I just installed a RcR Stage 1 Kit in my '98 Sport. I'm happy with it and it was a good all around performance increase. I like the fact that it is still trailable. Anyway, I know that I should put a Wiseco piston in it now, but if I didn't and the thing blew up, what is the likely hood of it scoring the cylinder wall? I broke a ring in my Mach Z 800, and it took a chunk out of the piston, but never hurt the cylinder luckily. How much is boring incase it did? Also, is there a chance that it could hurt the crank if the piston cracked? The crank for my sled was like $1200, and I wouldn't want that to happen. So basically, I'm not putting off the Wiseco for cash reasons, but if the stock one goes it gives me an excuse to do a little internal engine work. Maybe my theory is stupid...you guys can tell me that.
Thanks,
-Josh

Pirahna, save yourself some grief and put in the Wiseco. Boring doesn't cost that much, $40 to $50, but don't take the chance. That stock piston will give out on you and it might not go all at once. Do you really want those pieces grinding around in the crank? Yes, you could do some internal engine work if you wait til it goes out, but I'd rather spend $300 for a port job & some headwork now than pay to have a new crankshaft put in or have to but a new head altogether.
Put in the Wiseco before you HAVE to put it in.

I had an old 400 Xpress that had the oil injection line blow. It let enough oil in to where it didn't score the crank bearings, but it galled the piston & cracked a chunk out of the skirt. That little chunk got wedged in between the crank and crankcase. It not only bent the crank, it cracked the case!!! We were talking close to $1000 damage. So in answer to your question, yes, it can bend the crank, but it can also crack the case. I am told the case gets hurt only about 10% of the time, so I guess that somehow makes me special.
