Seen many photos of 300EX's with the handlebar cover removed. Thought about doing this to mine, but when I started to pull it off, I realized that the ignition switch is mounted in it. Where can you relocate it so I can remove the plastic?

I ran into the same problem when I replaced my handle bars. I drilled a hole, just a bit undersized, through the headlight assembly. YOu have to be careful where you put it though. Mine was a bit tricky, but it worked. If you take your time, it doesn't look bad. It actually looks rather clean because it is right there with everything else, i.e. reverse light and nuetral light.

Just zip-tied mine to the handlebars.

I just totaly eliminated mine. When I find the time or ambition (whichever comes first) I'm going to make a toggle switch and hide it up by the fuel petcock on the botom of the gas tanks on the frame. I dont like the idea of somebody just being able to kick my X over and take off.

The key switch for the 300 ex can be placed between the two black mounting tabs that held the original mount. First run the wires thru a drilled out (photo)fiim canister. Secure the switch to the mounting tabs with a 3" hose clamp.

Mine has the cover removed and the key switch is on the right side plastic. Just cut out a hole and pop it in and add a little glue. The hole won't be perfectly circle tho.

My friend drilled a hole in the upper right hand side of his plastic and put it there, it looks great, and professional looking.

I recently flipped my 300 EX while hill climbing breaking the plastic handle bar cover. I first tried to glue it but it did no hold up. (It's plastic, it was made to be replaced.) I moved mine to the right side on the middle panel above the N (honda). I used a 1 inch wood boring bit on my drill. This provided a tight fit even though I still used super glue to hold it in. To install the switch you have to remove the bottom of the switch (use white out to mark the position of the bottom to the upper part of the switch). Now you can reroute the wiring from the headlight to the right side of the panel. Insert the switch and replace the wiring to the bottom (the marks should help you here). After replacing the wiring check and make sure you get power by turning on the key. If all is well now just add some superglue to insure the switch will stay in place. Now you are ready to ride. Estimated time is about 30-45 min.

If you have any questions let me know.
