Jet kit or HL Performance kit results on 300. Any experiences??
#1
Yep, tryin to get a little more performance from the 300 4x4. Considering either the jet kit or the HL performance kit with the pipe and all. Any suggestions? Would it be just as easy to replace the jets myself vs. buying the package. Right now I find it a little hard to believe that $380 is worth the HL kit. Any help?

Go for the HL performance kit. You don't need the jet kit alone if you you don't have anything to increas airflow. Like a K & N Filter or a aftermarket pipe. I would get the HL kit cause it comes with the pipe, filter and jets. I thought that kit was a good deal. I would have bought it if I didn't buy each peice one by one.

The kit does work. With the stock engine, the largest tires you could run would be 26x9.5's all around. With a performance kit you could run 27x10's all around or 26x9.5/12 combo. I personally prefer the increase given with the big bore kit and 459 cam. You could always stick the 459 cam in there with a stock engine. That would be neat because that cam gives some major low end power to spin big tires. If this not what you want power for, get the high performance kit and 40b cam. The 40b cam will increase your top end speed but won't help your bottom end. It's all in what you want though.

Wait a minute....I just talked to Jeff Newman yesterday at highlifter, and he said the 40B cam gives you a lot of bottom end torque to turn those big tires. And also, about running 26's all the way around, i had 26 vamps on mine, and my stock engine would hardly turn them in the mud we have here. You must only ride in really really soupy watery mud if your's would turn them fine. And also, to put 27's on your 300, you have pull the fender braces out cause they will be in the way. But as for the HL performance kit, it works great on mine......but right now i want even more power, and i'm considering the High compression piston, 40B cam, and having jeff port and polish the heads, and a radial valve job.

I have done the mod's that you are talking about. It made a world of difference to my bike. It took only about 3 hours to complete all the mod's, and it gave me considerable more horsepower. Hills I never even ateemped to climb before, now are no problem. Much better throttle response, but I did foul the platinum tip plug already, which seemed kind of odd. Never had that type of problem before. All in all, it was worth it for me. The lift kit and the new Titan 489's lifted my bike about 3 inches, which was also nuch needed.

Hondaman85,
In response to the 300 not turning 26inch vamps...There has only been one occasion where I could barely spin them. I live in louisiana and I know what thick mud is. Also, you should seriously go to highlifters atv forums and ask the Briggs brothers about the honda 300 cams. The guy that goes by honda377 on the forums has a 380cc big bore kit and when he had the 40b cam he could only run 27x10 vamps front and 28x10 vamps rear and could not spin them that good. Now he runs the 28's all around and spins them in second gear in most stuff. There is also a guy on there with 28x12.5 outlaws all around on a 300 with a 355 bore kit and the 459 grind cam. I too was going to go with the 40b cam, but even web cams website agrees that it is for mid to high range power. If you really want to run big tires get the 459 cam. The stock cam has been proven to have more low end power than the 40b. Go to highlifter and ask The_Law about it. I will soon have my 459 and 355 ready to ride, probably by friday. I'll let you know how well it spins these 26x9.5 vamps now. You can't always go with what Jeff says, you do have to remember that he is a salesman and will tell you what you want to hear. Don't get me wrong, I like jeff, he has helped me out on several things and is always very nice. However you should talk to the Briggs brothers on the forums who have tried both cams. They will give you the comparisons and also tell you that the 459 cam wears out your engine faster, but it is the best cam to spin 27 or 28 inch tires.

OH yea, if you are sending your stuff to highlifter to be port and polished and stuff, try to find out some more about the nik-a-sil thing they do now. It looks like it could really help save your engine if you ride in deep water and occasionally sink it.
